1. What is a Moisture Sensing Hydro dispenser?
A moisture sensing hydro dispenser is a device that checks the moisture content of soil before turning the water on.
2. What is an Arduino?
An arduino is a small microprocessor (Computer) that allows one to program it and can do some pretty unique stuff. For more info Click here.
3. What is a Solenoid valve?
A solenoid valve is basically a magnet wrapped in coil. As soon as current is passes through the coil, the coil gets magnetized and forces the magnet (valve) to open. When the current stops, the valve close.
4. How long would it take to build this?
Depending on your experience with electronics and programming, it would take 2-3 days to make this device.
5. Is the sensor always reliable ?
The sensor we have, soil hygrometer sensor, has been giving us reliable readings based on moisture content. It was relatively cheap, which made us doubt the reliability at first. None the less it has pulled its own through out the project.
6.How is this going to help conserve water ?
This project will help manage the amount of water put into the soil by an individual and minimize loss by evaporation, transpiration, and run-off.
The team has done research on sensing equipment, the needs of plants for water and nourishment, and the electronics and sensing equipment. This research should be documented on a separate research tab. This page is really good for quick answers to any questions the reader may have.
